About NIB & How We Work

The National Institute of Beauty (NIB) is Australia’s original and leading online beauty training provider — established from the merger of Beauty Courses Online and Beleco Academy. We’ve been training students in hair and beauty skills for over 16 years, and we’ve helped thousands of graduates start successful businesses, land salon jobs, and build flexible careers they love.

Yes. NIB operates as an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The legal entity is Beleco Academy T/A National Institute of Beauty. Our trainers are government accredited with decades of hands-on industry experience.
Yes — they’re all the same business. NIB was formed from the merger of Beauty Courses Online and Beleco Academy, both of which we founded and operated. Same experienced team, same great courses, new name.

How Online Learning Works

It’s the same high-quality training you’d get in a physical school — just from the comfort of your own home, at your own pace. You’ll work through structured modules covering theory, safety, products, practical techniques, and client management. Everything you need is included: detailed training manuals, e-books, and professionally produced streaming videos.

You complete one module before moving to the next, just like any in-person course. The key difference is you set the schedule. Some motivated students complete a course in as little as 2–3 weeks. Others take a little longer around busy family or work commitments. There’s no rush — your access doesn’t expire.

You’ll need a device with internet access — a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer all work. Our content is mobile-friendly and accessible through our student app. No special software is required.
The NIB student app is one of the things that makes us genuinely different from other online beauty schools. Instead of submitting practical work and waiting days for feedback via email, you use the app to upload video of your work directly to your trainer. Your trainer reviews it and sends back personalised live video feedback — just like they’re sitting beside you in a salon. It makes the online experience feel much more personal and interactive than you might expect.
There’s no time limit. Once you’re enrolled, you have lifetime access to your course. You can study as fast or as slowly as suits you — most students aim to complete their course in 6–8 weeks, but you can absolutely take more time if life gets busy.
Yes — lifetime access is included with all courses. This means you can revisit your training materials anytime to refresh your knowledge, check a technique, or brush up before a new client appointment. We also include refresher training, so your education continues well beyond your initial certification.
Yes. Our courses are fully mobile-accessible through our student app. You can study on your phone, tablet, or computer — whatever works for you.

Support & Getting Help

We’re here to help — 7 days a week. If you’re having trouble with any part of your course, you can reach out to our trainer team and get a response quickly. We also have detailed FAQ sections within each course that cover common questions and challenges.

You’re never left to figure things out alone. Our trainers genuinely want to see you succeed, and they’ll stick with you until you do.

You submit your practical work through our student app by uploading video of the service you’ve performed. Your trainer watches your submission and sends back a personalised video response — pointing out what you did well, and walking you through any adjustments. It’s interactive, it’s personal, and it means you improve much faster than you would with written feedback alone.
Our trainer and support team are available 7 days a week. This is a key part of what makes NIB different — most schools only offer weekday support. We know life doesn’t stop on weekends, and neither does your training.

Course Content & Practical Requirements

No. Our courses are designed for complete beginners. There are no prerequisites, no prior qualifications required, and no industry experience needed. We start from the foundations and build you up to a professional standard.
Yes — practical work is an important part of your training. You’ll need to source your own practice models (friends and family work perfectly). Each course explains the specific practical requirements clearly, so you’ll know exactly what’s expected before you start.

We recommend asking people who’ve had the service done professionally before — they’ll be better placed to give you useful feedback on your work as you practise.

Many of our courses come with comprehensive product kits that include everything you need to complete your training and start working on paying clients. The specific kit contents vary by course — download the brochure or pricing pack for your chosen course for full details on what’s included.
You film your practical work and submit it through our student app. Your trainer watches your submission and provides personal video feedback. You move through the assessment process module by module, with guidance from your trainer every step of the way.

Every course is different, but most cover:

  • Safety, hygiene, and infection control
  • Client consultation and record keeping
  • Product and equipment knowledge
  • Step-by-step practical techniques (from basics through to advanced)
  • Business and client management skills

For example, the Nail Technology Masterclass covers three full nail systems (UV Gel, Acrylic, and Dip), plus manicure and pedicure services across 15 modules. The Eyelash Extensions Masterclass covers classic lashes, Russian Volume, lash lift, and tinting across 18 modules. The level of depth is thorough — we’re not in the business of handing out half-baked certificates.

Qualifications & Career Outcomes

Yes. Upon successfully completing your course, you’ll receive a certificate that is legally valid in Australia to allow you to work in a salon or set up your own business providing those services.

If you’re outside Australia, we’d recommend checking the licensing and regulatory requirements in your specific location, as these can vary.

Absolutely — that’s the whole point. Our courses are designed to make you client-ready, not just certificate-ready. By the time you complete your training, you’ll have the skills and confidence to start taking paying clients, whether you’re working from home, renting a room in a salon, going mobile, or opening your own business.

The options are wide open. Our graduates go on to:

No. Each course is designed to be a complete, standalone qualification. You can enrol in just one course if that’s all you need, or combine multiple courses to broaden your services.
That depends on your goals. If you want to specialise in one area — say, lashes or nails — a single course is the most efficient path. If you want to offer a wide range of services, our full programs offer significantly better value. When students finish one course they very often come back for more, so some people find it more economical to bundle from the start.
